US Navy Ship Sanitation Certificate Practice Exam

The weight of cargo must be confirmed with the Supply Officer (SUPPO) primarily because this individual is responsible for managing the supply and logistics operations on the ship, including the receipt and distribution of cargo. The SUPPO ensures that the weight of the cargo is verified for accuracy, which is critical for safe loading and stowage on the vessel.

Cargo weight is integral to ship stability and safety; understanding the precise weight helps in maintaining proper weight distribution, preventing capsizing or other hazardous situations. The SUPPO has comprehensive knowledge of supply chain protocols and is trained to handle the specifics associated with cargo management. This includes ensuring that all cargo is accounted for and that any discrepancies are addressed in a timely manner.

While other officers may play significant roles in ship operations, they do not specifically manage cargo logistics to the extent that the SUPPO does, making the confirmation of cargo weight a primary responsibility for this position.
